FEATURE ARTICLE: "E-Training: The Truth is Out There!" Larry Glidewell is a pioneer in technology delivered training. From his internship with one of the first three interactive-television educational systems in the country, Mr. Glidewell has been at the forefront of developing and marketing technology delivered training. He has started and sold five technology-based companies, which is why he describes himself as “a recovering entrepreneur.” All of the companies were involved with distance learning or digital multimedia communication. His role in each company was finding lucrative markets for emerging technology. His experience in training includes developing and delivering instructor led management and marketing programs to executives in Fortune 1000 firms internationally, as well as managing a $28 million training center in Houston. With an educational background in Organizational Communication and Social Psychology, Larry’s approach to successfully developing markets is based on sound marketing research and in-depth, hands-on data collection in the field with interviews and focus groups. Armed with this base of market research, he has successfully developed products, analyzed competitors, positioned products and services (including pricing), and developed innovative marketing programs in the business-to-business sector. He has done this not only for the companies he has helped launch as a principal, but for scores of companies he’s consulted with, which include multimedia, software, and sales automation software companies. He has developed award winning interactive products including interactive training systems, online training sites, and educational and training CD-ROMs. Mr. Glidewell recently completed a year-and-a-half marketing project in the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software marketplace, where he designed a product, marketing, and product positioning strategy for online training for ERP programs in the global Fortune 2000 market. His client for this project is a major training producer with clients that include Ford Motors, Fiat, Steelcase, AT&T, Lucent Technologies, and other Fortune 500 companies.
